Is Snapchat My AI Safe for Kids?
Snapchat My AI requires 13+, following Snapchat’s own minimum age. Our own recommendation is 16+ with active supervision, if at all. The weakest parental-oversight story of the tools listed here. Common Sense Media recommends against AI chatbots for under-18s generally, and My AI has been documented giving teens inappropriate guidance. The structural problem is that a parent cannot see these conversations even with Family Center enabled.

What is Snapchat My AI?
A chatbot embedded inside Snapchat’s messaging interface, positioned like another friend in the chat list rather than as a tool a child chooses to open.
What do under-18s actually get on Snapchat My AI?
My AI is pinned into the normal Snapchat chat list, so a teen meets it in the same place as conversations with friends. There is no separate teen mode for the assistant itself.
What parental controls does Snapchat My AI have?
Snapchat’s Family Center lets a parent see who their teen talks to and how long they spend in the app, and disable My AI — but parents cannot read message content, cannot see what a child discussed with My AI, and the teen must actively consent to being monitored. Removing My AI entirely requires a Snapchat+ subscription (around $3.99/month).

What should parents know?
- •Family Center does NOT show you My AI conversations — this is the most commonly misunderstood point.
- •Monitoring requires the teen to accept it, so it is not something a parent can silently enable.
- •Because it sits in the friend list, children may not register it as an AI at all.
- •Turning My AI off completely is behind a paid subscription.
