1. Human next-word game
Ages 5–10 · about 15 minutes
You need: Paper and two or more people
- One person writes the first three words of a story.
- Pass it on; the next person adds only one word, then folds it so only the last few words show.
- Keep going for twenty words.
- Read the result out loud and ask whether anyone planned it.
It worked if: The child can explain that a sentence can be built one word at a time with nobody knowing the ending in advance.
What went wrong / what surprised us:
A note on tools: everything recommended for ages 3–5 is free and runs in a browser. If a product asks you to pay before your child can finish an activity, there is almost always a free equivalent.
